At 14 years age when I watched Raging Bull for the first time, It blew me away. I didn´t have the vaguest idea what it was about. I just had a strange feeling in the depths of my stomach. Little did I know that the film was considered to be of one the absolute all time classics and had received an Oscar for the editing.

Despite tough competition and the active discouragement of my teachers I applied and gained entry to film school in Ireland. I turned 21 half way through my first term. Those years spent at Dun Laoire College of Art and Design, living and breathing film, were nothing short of paradise!

During my final year I specialized in editing, using a flat bed film editing machine.
Learning to edit on an ancient Steenbeck editing table provided me with a rock solid foundation for my current skills set. However on graduation, I soon discovered that every body in the industry had just made the move to Non linear editing systems. It was either Avid or Lightworks back then. (Always loved Lightworks :-) After several challenging years. I was just beginning to find my feet, when I fell in love with a German woman. So I packed up my bags, sold my CD collection and moved to the most dynamic city in Europe, Berlin!

I cut my teeth on the thriving Berlin Underground scene whilst learning the
"The Awful German Language." With the years moving over to more commercial stuff for cinema, events, dvd, internet & television. In short including my time in Ireland I´ve been editing for going on 15 years. Am a Final Cut early bird with 9 years experience. Check out my editing page for clients. And have a parallel track as training for 5 years now. Mainly FCP to date but I am always open for new challenges.

The main chalenge with training is getting people with different backgrounds up to speed and makeing the best use of their talents. Hands on training has been a speciality with 78 trainees in the last 18 months at one german based company! Further I run the courses at the Apple Berlin Training Center and of course I have the honor of being the leader of the Berlin Final Cut Pro User Group.

Despite my increasing levels of training I keep myself on my toes editing regularly. But I´m still convinced it´s all about creating those tiny eye-opening moments. The ones which stop the viewer dead in his tracks. Because it just looks so great for no apparent reason. And there´s some kind of message in there that the viewer doesn´t quite get, but is hooked and forgets to get the next beer from the fridge.

Because life is too short for boring editing.
